Winter vomiting bug will hit two million Britons this winter

The UK has been hit by the nasty winter vomiting bug once again bringing hospitals up and down the country to their knees. The Norovirus is the most common cause of sickness and diarrhoea in England and Wales and the number of cases typically begins to rise in the winter months. The main reason this virus spreads so quickly is that you are still contagious for 48 hours after symptoms have disappeared.
So what can you do to try and prevent this little nasty? Experts say there is no cure or drug to help ease the pain, discomfort and even embarrassment of stinking out the office toilets before your colleagues need to use it.
The health protection Agency recommends good hygiene to prevent people spreading the virus to others. This includes thoroughly washing hands after going to the toilet and before and after preparing food.
You can help your office and home environment with a selection of products that will keep a suspected Norovirus at bay.

Hand wash review

Baylis and Harding Hand Wash and Lotion Set
A thick gel that is dispensed in quite small quantities – a plus for those who care about how much excess toiletries are flushed down the drain. The sweet mandarin and grapefruit  scent is strong but fresh, leaving you in no doubt that your hands are clean. Contains an effective complex of tea tree oil and grapefruit extract to help eliminate dirt and thoroughly cleanse the skin. The added advantage of the clear bottle is that you can see when you are running out.

Johnsons pH 5.5 Hand Wash Liquid Soap
100 percent soap free, so it will not dry your skin like other soaps can. Formulated to the same pH as healthy skin so it is suitable for even sensitive skins, while the antibacterial agents guarantee protection from germs. Also suitable for use on the face to help against the development of spots.
Contains added moisturisers to keep skin soft, healthy and clean.
It is easy to depress so the kids can use it by themselves and that reassuring smell makes you certain their hands are clean.

Dove Cream Wash
You’ve got to love Dove products and this one is no exception. With active moisturising cream, it is a very soft and creamy wash that foams up nicely. It has quite a strong smell of soap though. Soft enough that you can also use it on your face, which might make it useful for a kids’ bathroom. Is also skin pH neutral, and can be followed by Dove Protective Hand-Balm if you want to give your hands a real treat.

Ecover Liquid Soap Hand Wash
You can’t really go wrong with Ecover as all their products are made from natural plant extracts and minerals so are environmentally friendly and gentle on your hands. A rich lather ensures a good clean but don’t expect any strong soap smells

Help the environment when you by office supplies online

If you want your office products supplied by a company with real green credentials then make sure you do your homework. The environment matters to all of us so look for a company with a distribution partner with an ISO 1401 environmental accreditation. Distribution partners with that are part of a FTSE 250 company, are constantly updating and refining it’s systems to make their whole operations leaner and greener.

Transport is a major part of the office supplies business. Look for a company that has an efficient transport network and has been optimised so it makes fewer journeys, with fewer miles driven and less Co2 emissions.

When a delivery of goods is made, any waste, plastic, paper or pallets should be picked up and returned on the same vehicle, simple.
The fleet should be maintained to the highest specification keeping it running efficiently and an ongoing investment by the distributor in efficient vehicles will further reduce their impact on the environment.

The distributer’s warehouses and offices should have tough targets for reducing gas and electricity consumption. That will be great news for the environment and the reduction in cost should helps keep prices for the consumer.
The result is a substantial reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfills. Reducing the impact on the environment. When it comes to products the same approach should be maintained. Products with environmental accreditation should clearly be marked on the companies’ webstore and the packaging.

The environment matters to all of us so when you order your office supplies from Unique office you can be sure were doing our bit to look after your environment. If you would like to  find out more about our green credentials or any other aspect of our business contact us today.
